GCT UPDATES AUDIENCE

Germantown Community Theatre gives update on board members, next season, and Education Director

Germantown, TN (May 29, 2020) — This week at the Germantown Community Theatre, new members were selected to join GCT’s Board of Directors, new show dates are announced, and an educational update is given by new staff member, Christina Hernandez. The Board of Directors unanimously voted on new members via Facebook Live Event. The 49th Season’s show dates are updated to give additional rehearsal time to the cast and crew. GCT also welcomes Christina Hernandez as she settles into her role of Education Director and discusses GCT’s summer plans.

“As we wrap up our 48th Season, GCT is thrilled to head into the 49th with an amazing slate of Board members,” said Teresa Jordan, GCT Board president. She added, “We’re very excited to be working with the talented Eileen Kuo, Janice Toshach and Randall Melton, the newest additions to our wonderful team.”

Usually held in person, the board meeting took place via Facebook Live Event on Tuesday, May 26th, with all board members sitting, socially distanced, at the theatre. They selected the new members unanimously and voted Eileen Kuo, Janice Toshach, and Randall Melton onto the board. The newly appointed members will begin their term on July 1st: the start of GCT’s 2021 fiscal year.

The board of directors and executive committee (officer’s) is as follows:

Christina Hernandez joined the GCT staff on May 1st as its new Education & Outreach Director after many years of teaching and performing at GCT. She has been a vocal instructor for the last 7 years, specializing in musical theatre and youth education, and has directed and taught educational theatre all over the 901, also while performing in Memphis area theatres. She comes to GCT in one of their busiest seasons, and immediately begins working on the Summer activities. She shares an update for GCT’s plans for their annual theatre Summer camps.

“I am so thrilled to be starting my first summer here at GCT and I am so grateful for the warm welcome everyone has given me,” she comments, “Summer camps are now in full swing for June and we still have quite a bit of availability for our newly added July camps! We are adhering to CDC childcare guidelines for all our camps, meaning fewer students per session so space is very limited.” The theatre has cut their numbers to 30% capacity.

“We are thrilled to have Christina join our team,” states Brian Everson, Executive Director.  “Her extensive work in the GMSD theatre programs will help GCT be able to supplement and continue the fine arts education of students in our city.”

Brian also comments on the change of show dates for GCT’s 49th season. “We felt it necessary to make adjustments to our season show dates to give additional time to rehearse our productions.” Most of GCT’s rehearsals have been pushed back due to reopening policies. Brain continues, “Additionally, reorganizing the placement of shows within the season will allow more time to plan and prepare our largest productions this season.” There are three musicals planned for the upcoming season, as well as five straight plays. GCT has also added additional showtimes to their production runs.

The 49th season for GCT is as follows:

  • Annie Get Your Gun, August 7-16
  • Smoke on the Mountain, September 11-27
  • Clue: Onstage, October 30-November 15

  • Bright Star, May 14-30
