Character Breakdown
Andrew Rally (Male): A young, popular television actor who has just lost a show and is now reluctantly playing Hamlet in NYC’s Shakespeare in the Park. He is uncertain of his ability to perform live and is intimidated by the role.
John Barrymore (Male): The legendary, deceased Shakespearean actor who previously lived in (and owned) Andrew’s apartment. He appears as a flamboyant, hard-drinking, and romantic ghost to tutor Andrew in acting and the “art” of being a leading man.
Deirdre McDavey (Female): Andrew’s girlfriend who is deeply romantic and deeply committed to “saving herself” until marriage. She idolizes the theater and works as a, often naive, encouraging force.
Lillian Troy (Female): Andrew’s eccentric and witty talent agent. An older woman who once had a passionate affair with John Barrymore in the same apartment decades prior.
Felicia Dantine (Female): A quirky real estate agent who is a student of spiritualism and arranges for the seance to summon Barrymore.
Gary Peter Lefkowitz (Male): A crass, enthusiastic Hollywood writer-producer who views the role of Hamlet as a joke and tries to tempt Andrew back into television.
