Driving Miss Daisy is postponed

THEATRE PAUSES FOR CORONA

The Germantown Community Theatre delays events due to Corona virus.

Germantown, TN (March 12, 2020) — This morning, the Germantown Community Theatre (GCT) decided to postpone the opening weekend of their upcoming production, Driving Miss Daisy, due to the health concerns of the COVID-19 outbreak. Opening night was originally scheduled for tomorrow, March 13th, but has been rescheduled for Friday, March 20th. The board of directors will discuss the situation next Wednesday to decide if further action is needed based off information available at that time.  The GCT Board of Directors also discussed the concerns for continuing the youth educational classes and have decided to cancel them until March 30th.

“[We have] decided to take the cautionary measure of postponing the Opening of Driving Miss Daisy. . . and suspending our education classes and rehearsals for a minimum of two weeks” states Teresa Jordan, GCT Board President, “our primary focus will always be the safety and well-being of our wonderful patrons, students, teachers, artists and staff.” Executive Director, Brian Everson, adds “It is definitely not our preference to delay the opening. . . or our educational programs but given the overwhelming advice from the state and national governments, we felt that it was in the best interest of our patrons and students to protect them from supplemental harm.” He concludes, “In the end, I hope we can chalk this up as a huge overreaction, but the board of directors and I felt safety is priority number one.”

The Germantown Community Theatre is providing rescheduled tickets or refunds to opening weekend patrons and will continue to do so if there are additional changes. More performance dates are hoped to be set and available for ticket purchases by March 20th.
